OUR ACTIVITIES

Drawing on its extensive field experience, Acted US is deeply committed to the “first mile” of humanitarian action. True to its mission of responding where needs are greatest, the organization deploys its teams to the most remote and hard-to-reach areas, often overlooked by other actors. This proximity-based approach makes Acted a key player in humanitarian response, combining agility, local engagement, and a focus not only on immediate relief but also on long-term sustainable development, ensuring that affected communities are supported well beyond the emergency phase.

Acted US in Darfur

Responding to the crisis in Sudan, Acted US is planning to initiate its humanitarian response in Darfur, where prolonged conflict has led to massive displacement and a major humanitarian crisis. More than one million people have been forced to flee the El Fasher area in North Darfur since 2024, according to estimates from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), while around 1.5 million people across the region are facing acute food insecurity, based on data from the World Food Programme (WFP). Malnutrition rates have reached critical levels — up to 28% in some localities such as Yasin, according to UNICEF — and several health facilities have stopped operating, as reported by OCHA. Access to water, healthcare, and food remains extremely limited, further strained by ongoing insecurity and the destruction of key infrastructure.

In this context, Acted is planning an emergency multisector response aiming at addressing the most urgent needs of displaced populations. Its actions focus on four key areas: WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), Cash assistance, site management, and protection, aiming to restore access to essential services and ensure safer living conditions for affected communities.

WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)

Acted US focuses on ensuring access to safe water, adequate sanitation, and proper hygiene in camps and host communities. This will include water points rehabilitation or repair, and hygiene kits provision to displaced families. Awareness sessions aims at helping communities understand disease prevention and safe hygiene practices. These measures aim to reduce the spread of waterborne diseases and improve living conditions in highly vulnerable areas.

Cash Assistance

Cash transfers will be provided to displaced families to meet their immediate needs, including food, hygiene items, and other essentials. This approach will allow beneficiaries to prioritize their own needs, reduce the need to travel to unsafe areas, and help maintain some economic activity in local markets where possible.

Site Management

Acted US will work to organize and manage displacement sites to ensure safety, equity, and access to services. Activities will include registering households, coordinating with other humanitarian actors and local authorities, and monitoring needs to ensure resources are distributed efficiently and fairly.

Protection

Protection activities will focus on safeguarding vulnerable groups, especially women, children, and the elderly. Acted US will support community awareness on rights, provide mechanisms to report violence, and offer psycho-social support. These measures will aim to reduce risks such as gender-based violence, child exploitation, and unsafe living conditions, while enhancing the overall safety and well-being of residents in camps and sites.
